Frequently Asked Questions

Doggie Daycare is an environment where dogs are dropped off for the day to play & socialize with other dogs in a fun, safe, clean, and supervised environment. Doggie Daycare has many benefits:

Upon arrival on your first visit, there will be some paperwork to be filled out which will help us know more about your pup and ease the transition into the pack. Paperwork includes a Pet & Parent Application, Service agreement, and Rules & Regulations Form, Policy for Contagious Viruses, and Senior or Special Conditions Dog Release From (for dogs 8yrs and older) which should be completed prior to Evaluation day.

There's certainly a lot of choices for your dog in terms of which leash or slip you should use. We ask Parents to use a standard 3-4 foot long leash with a fitting collar or harness so that we may handle your dog safely and gently throughout the facility. We DO NOT recommend retractable leashes (especially for bigger dogs) due to some of the safety and mechanical issues related to them. Some additional information is below.

A retractable leash is not so much a leash as it is a length of thin cord wound around a spring-loaded device housed inside a plastic handle. The handles of most retractable leashes are designed to fit comfortably in a human hand. A button on the handle controls how much of the cord is extended.

Retractable leashes are popular primarily because they aren't as confining as regular leashes, allowing dogs more freedom to sniff and poke around on walks. But unfortunately, there are many downsides to this type of leash.

A Few Reasons Not to Use a Retractable Leash:

1: The length of retractable leashes, some of which can extend up to 26 feet, allows dogs to get far enough away from their humans that a situation can quickly turn dangerous. A dog on a retractable leash is often able to run into the middle of the street, for example, or make uninvited contact with other dogs or people.

2: In the above scenario, or one in which your pet is being approached by an aggressive dog, it is nearly impossible to get control of the situation if the need arises.

3: The thin cord of a retractable leash can break – especially when a powerful dog is on the other end of it. If a strong, good-sized dog takes off at full speed, the cord can snap. Not only can that put the dog and whatever he may be chasing in danger, but also the cord can snap back and injure the human at the other end.

4: If a walker gets tangled up in the cord of a retractable leash, or grabs it in an attempt to reel in their dog, it can result in burns, cuts, and serious injury.

5: Dogs have also received terrible injuries as a result of the sudden jerk on their neck that occurs when they run out the leash, including neck wounds, lacerated trachea, and injuries to the spine.

6: Retractable leashes come with frequent mechanical problems and tend not to last too long. There is a high tendency to malfunction over time, either refusing to extend, retract, or unspool.

7: The handles of retractable leashes are bulky and can be easily pulled out of human hands, resulting in a runaway dog.

8: Retractable leashes are an especially bad idea for dogs that haven't been trained to walk politely on a regular leash. By their very nature, retractable train dogs to pull while on leash, because they learn that pulling extends the lead.

All daycare guests must be spayed or neutered, unless under 7 months of age. Once they reach 7 months of age, they must be spayed or neutered in order to socialize with the other guests in daycare. We do not accept any unfixed dogs over the age of 7 months.

Unaltered dogs may often exhibit more behavior and temperament problems, including aggression towards animals and people, and attempt to escape. In general, animal welfare organizations and veterinarians agree that spaying and neutering a pet is a responsible decision that will not only reduce the over-population of pets but will benefit the pet in many ways. We respect your decision not to spay or neuter but have requirements in place for the safety of all pets at our facility.

Prevention is key, and our staff is trained to prevent misbehavior. However, when it occurs, Verbal correction and Redirection is the first method of behavior modification at Wagging Lounge Dog Resort. Spray bottles filled with water are used to get the attention of dogs that do not respond to verbal correction. If needed, we use the "time-out" method to teach proper manners. Time-Out involves separating the dog from the others for a short period of time. This is done to teach the dog that poor behavior choices lead to a temporary loss of play privileges.

Your dog will never be unsupervised while in a group. We will have anywhere from one to four Pack Leaders working at any given time, depending on the day and number of dogs.

Wagging Lounge Dog Resort has trained staff to quickly assess the situation to determine what action to take in case of illness or injury. Pet parents will be notified ASAP.

Think of it as a "Info & Mingle" session for your dog and our staff and other pup guests. Your dog is our number one concern. All dogs must go through and pass a Temperament Evaluation which will assess the social behavior of your dog. On the first day, your dog will be introduced to other dogs one by one and then into groups to observe their behavior. We are looking for signs of fear or aggression that could result in a safety issue for your dog, other guests, or staff members. Our goal is to make sure your pup is right fit with the pack as well as the Staff. Safety of our pack and our Staff is on the top of our list at Wagging Lounge Dog Resort.
